McCalls 6035 Pattern Review

Thursday, June 18th, 2015

McCalls Pattern 6035 is a fabulous shirt pattern.

Check out my new ‘Hibiscus’ themed shirt I made from this pattern, my feature video & 5 sewing tips below for making the McCalls 6035 pattern.

You Tube – McCalls 6035 Pattern

My Top 5 Tips when sewing McCalls 6035 Shirt Pattern are:

  1. Stitch the curved hemline BEFORE you sew the side seams.
  2. If you have an overlocker (serging machine) use it on the curved part of the hemline using a differential feed feature. This gathers the curve so when you take the hemline up, the fabric easily eases around the curve and sits perfectly flat.
  3. When stitching the buttonholes, use a small amount of fabric fray glue on the wrong side of the buttonhole. This prevents the buttonhole from unraveling or fraying.
  4. Introduce a contrasting fabric for the collar stand and front tab for added interest.
  5. When using a contrasting fabric ensure it is compatible with the main fabric used.

McCalls Pattern 6035 has 4 shirt views, princess line and a variety of sleeve styles for your selection. Suggested fabrics are: lightweight fabrics such as cotton, cotton blends, challis, crepe de chine, silk rayon & linen.

Have you made this McCalls M6035 Shirt pattern too or are inspired to sew it up for yourself?

Learn to Sew Gorgeous Quilt Cushions!

Wednesday, April 8th, 2015

Over the Easter break I had a great time helping my dear friend Heather sew a set of gorgeous quilt cushions to match the special quilt I made her last year.

In one of our beginner quilting classes last year Heather learned the quilting technique and made her quilt squares into these gorgeous cushions as you can see below:

Quilting Classes Geelong Sewing Cushions

Quilting Classes Geelong Sew Cushions

Quilt Cushion Features:

  1. Heather used the same patchwork technique we teach in our ‘Beginner Quilting Class’ to make cushion fronts
  2. The designs were to fit 40cm square cushions
  3. Iron-on Pellon (iron-on wadding) was used on the wrong side of the cushion panels
  4. Heather ditch stitched around feature panels to add loft
  5. Piping was added for a professional finish to the outer edges
  6. Heather learned how to insert invisible zips at piped lower edge cushion seams
  7. Coordinating fabrics were chosen for the back of the cushions to match the quilt

I think Heather did a fabulous job! Well done Heather!

If you would like to learn how to sew a quilt and make gorgeous cushions to match you can book into one of our quilting or sewing classes today BOOK ONLINE HERE!
