Student News from Maree’s Sewing Classes!

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Hi Everyone!

I have such a great time teaching sewing in my sewing school at Rosewood Cottage that I wanted to share with you some pictures of what a few of my students have been working on recently!

Below Sally worked on a great sewing project of hers - ‘A??tailored jacket’. This is a classic style with 3/4 length sleeves, centre back and princess line seams. The fabric used was a blue denim marle linen.

Back View of Sally’s tailored jacket in the making.

Sally (right) wears her finished??jacket to my High Tea Party and is pictured here with another one of my sewing students Rose (left). As you can see, Sally finished her jacket with a fine blue ribbon stitched close to the outer edges of the collar, sleeve and pockets. Sally lined this jacket with a gorgeous blue and white floral printed cotton! Great Job Sally!

More sewing for Baby! Here Kay makes a gorgeous little outfit for her granddaughter Milli! Kay made this sun dress from a pink and white gingham fabric. She rolled edge the top edge of the dress with a 3 thread overlocker and shirred the bodice using shirring elastic. Then Kay trimmed the hemline with guipure lace daisies and stitched two on the bodice. It also features fine elasticized shoulder straps! Great job Kay!

Anna made this cute little outfit below for her friend’s little girl from Pattern McCalls 5835 view A & E size 1.??Anna learnt how to pattern match the prints used in the dress, how to cut the most desired part of the fabric to make frills using a rolled edge on??the overlocker. Anna coordinated her fabrics to make the??matching bloomers!

Having fun at Rosewood – Marilyn & Maree! Marilyn is one of my dearest friends and as what good friends do -??they start thinking alike – and dressing alike!! Marilyn and I regularly wear the same colours, styles or accessories on the same day, especially our red shoes which we??both??have several of! As you can see below Marilyn arrived to class wearing her new red wool jacket that she had just completed. We both think we have great taste.??:-)

Below Penny is showing us all one of her new sewing folders. Penny has a terrific??collection of folders where she has??photo copies of??all her pattern covers and has put them into various categories.??Therefore when Penny is looking for inspiration she can simply??browse through her own catalogue!??So convenient!

I’m a Grandma – Baby Sewing for Poppy!

Saturday, January 15th, 2011

Watch my short video below where I share with you my wonderful and exciting news!

Well I am absolutely delighted to share with you all that I have recently become a Grandma for the first time!

My son and his wife had a beautiful little girl Poppy!

Grandma & Poppy

The new family!

So before Poppy arrived I was very busy sewing for baby!

Here is Poppy just 1 hour old sleeping on mummy’s shoulder on one of the ‘Burbing Bibs’ I made

Here are just a few of the things I made for my new little granddaughter….

A hand made Teddy Blanket

Children love soft blankets with satin and teddy bears so this Teddy Blanket combines both to cuddle and keep warm! I also designed the Teddy’s head to have a flat face so it can act as a pillow!

My ‘Crazy Cat’ Quilt

A soft colourful fleece ‘Floor Blanket

Muslins

A Hooded Towel for bath time!

This design features a hood to place over baby’s head after having a bath, the towel can then be wraped around them to dry them and keep them warm.

Baby Sleeping Bag

As you can see Baby can be wrapped tightly and the length shortened to prevent baby from slipping down.

Ribbon feature to adjust length as baby grows!

Poppy in her Sleeping Bag!

Special Red Elephant!

One of my sewing students and friend Kath made this very special red elephant for Poppy. It features gorgeous satin ribbons to touch as babies love the feel of soft silky fabrics.

I hope you have enjoyed this blog post! If you liked any of these projects please leave a comment below I would love to hear from you!
