Saturday, June 23rd, 2012

It was terrific to be featured in the Geelong Advertiser recently.

There was a section all about how to save money and how learning to sew your own clothes can save you a fortune!

Old Denim Jeans Transformed into a New Denim Skirt

Saturday, June 23rd, 2012

I am pleased to share with you another transformational project from an avid sewer Irene!

Irene sews at home and her sewing helper is her gorgeous cat Tigger!

As you can see below Irene has transformed a pair of old denim jeans into a new denim skirt. (Please note: this jeans photo wasn’t the actual pair cut up as we didn’t get a picture of the actual pair used. So we have included this denim jeans photo to demonstrate what was done from an original pair of denim jeans).

New Denim Skirt Front – The front of the skirt is the pocket and fly section of the jeans and the??back pocket sections of the jeans, with two small panels from the??legs to??make the lower halves??required for the width.

Back of Skirt - The back of the skirt are made from the legs of the jeans.

Tigger gives Irene a cat kiss after the job is done! How cute!

Well done Irene! Thank so much for sending your transformed Jeans pictures to us here at Maree Pigdon Sewing Centre to share with our readers!

Suzie bought this delicious strawberry and chocolate cake for dessert for end of term, check one out below!

Vintage Cape – Re-designing a wool blanket

Saturday, June 23rd, 2012

Today’s post is a transformational one! Here at my sewing school many of my students love to sew from vintage fabrics or revamp an old garment into new!

Vintage sewing is so popular and I enjoy seeing old style fabrics come to life! Re-vamping old garments can also save you money on fabric and save you from throwing out an old garment or accessory in your wardrobe which still has lots of life left in the fabric.

Anita as shown below brought to class a vintage blanket intending to make cushion covers. However with one look at the vintage blanket I could see it was such a good quality felted wool. I suggested another idea – to make a gorgeous warm winter cape! And this is just what Anita did. See the series of pictures below at various stages in the making.

Curved neckline & front toggle closures

Pockets cut on the bias with fringing cut from the edge of blanket.

Pattern matching – a must!

Overlocked edging

Made from this New Look pattern

In the making

Well done Anita what a wonderfully warm winter cape for you to wear!
