Sewing Aprons in class & a special Baby Sewing helper!

Saturday, June 23rd, 2012

In today’s post I am delighted to share more gorgeous sewing projects from some of the students in my sewing school.

Jan made a fabulous apron as you can see below. A black print combination of plain, print and stripe. Jan made this 1/2 apron style from one of my own designer apron patterns.

Tanya as shown below made a gorgeous vintage apron from vintage fabric to make a half apron to wear while cooking in her kitchen too! Great job Tanya well done!

We had a very special guest and sewing helper come to class! One of my students Sue, interrupted her term of sewing classes to give birth to her second child, a sweet little girl called Carrie. As you can see below Sue was quick to return to sewing classes with her new little bundle of joy and sewing helper. I guess you can never start too early in learning how to sew!

Sue as below shows the finished product of her beautiful Owl quilt for her new baby. Sue also enjoys baking and brought to class a tin of freshly baked fruit scones to share with her class which were just delicious. Thanks Sue, congratulations and well done on your baby quilt!

Well done girls! I can’t wait to see your next sewing projects and sewing designs in term 3!

Recommended Fabric Marking Pen

Saturday, June 23rd, 2012

Hi Everyone,

When sewing we need to mark our fabrics to help us put all the peices together. We have notches, darts, button placement, right and wrong sides of the fabric just to name a few!

There are many sewing products available from the good old tailors chalk to fancy fabric marking pens. Here I have found a great sewing tool with this fabric marking pen.

Watch my video below to see my demonstration of my recommended fabric marking pen!

Please leave me a comment below, I would love to hear what you have to say about this sewing tip

Sewing Classes Geelong Student Sewing Projects

Wednesday, June 6th, 2012

Hi everyone!

We are into another fantastic term of sewing classes here at Rosewood Cottage!

Here are some wonderful pictures from some of my sewing students and their sewing projects!

Rowena made a gorgous little reversible hooded cape just like ‘little red riding hood’ for her daughter! Made from two co-ordinating patchwork fabrics, featuring a toggle closure at the neckline. Well done Rowena!

Megan made a tunic dress from a grey and black stripe stretch, medium weight double knit. The collar was made separately which is a twist collar that can be worn with the tunic as well as an accessory for other outfits! The tunic can also be worn with a belt at the waistline to create a different style. Great job Megan!

Melonie had a lovely patch work boarder print fabric. In class we decided to cut the panels we preferred into various strips and gathered them to form three tires. As you can see below Melonie finished the skirt with a lace trim and elasticized waistline. Perfect for her daughter who loves to twirl wearing her new skirt! Well done Melone!

Anne-Marie is a very creative dressmaker who likes to draft her own patterns, she loves textures and layers. In class together we brainstorm ideas, then simply cut and sew and create! Below Anne-Marie used a knit fabric which featured 2.5cm ruffles knitted into the fabric. When worn this fabrics creates a sense of movement! Great effort Anne-Marie. Note the below pictures are the outfit in progress.

Well done girls! I can’t wait to see your next sewing projects and sewing designs!
